No going back now!....

We must be mad to invite so much mess into our home at this time of year!  We have decided to take the plunge and knock down a thick wall that is between our kitchen and breakfast room
Please excuse the state of the floor this is under flooring, the real floor was ripped out a while back.  The idea is to knock down the wall at the end of the table the wall with the "peep hole" so to speak.  It is a very thick wall that is part of the chimney breast so will need careful dismantling!
I do like the look of the room as it is, I find it very cosy but feel that the room will be much more user friendly as one big space.

There is a Ray Burn cooker the other side of this wall which will sadly have to go
This is the wall, you can see the Ray Burn flue to the left of the hole.

This is the other side of the wall, the kitchen side.  Cupboards down to access pipework as we are having new central heating just for good measure!  You can see how thick the wall is, just a big block in the centre of the room.

Bye bye lovely Ray burn and good riddance to horrible tiles! :0)

Back in the breakfast room side, the builders made a start on Friday, they are replacing the whole ceiling and floor. This is part one of the ceiling being ripped down in order to get the props in.
You can peek up into a bedroom!
This is how it has been left over the weekend.  Plumbers and builders in tomorrow and this wall should be nearly gone by the end of the day.  Really looking forward to the change, I know it will all come together and I will keep you posted.  Perhaps I should put some Christmas-sy tinsel around those poles!

Thanks for sharing my chaos with me :0)
Hugs, Charlotte xx

  1. A big project like this during a holiday season sounds like something we would do. I bet it will look fabulous when it's all done. Look forward to seeing the progress

    1. Hi Ann, glad we are not the only ones! It is not brilliant timing but we wanted to do it before the Winter sets in. I am looking forward to the end result :0) It is like Piccadilly Circus here today so many workmen, better go and make them another cuppa! xx

  2. This has made me feel so much better about the room we are currently turning into an office, somehow a landing and spare bedroom full of furniture and a kitchen table covered in decorating supplies don't seem so bad!

  4. Don't worry about the disruption and mess now Charlotte. We did the same thing in our house and have not regretted it at all. It is so lovely to be able to have conversations face-to-face with people when they come to dinner rather than having to poke you head around the corner all the time. Once all is straight and neat you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner. Philippa xx
